Overview

The CPL filter is designed to remove glare and reflections, resulting in better-contrasted image quality, with vivid colors, even in bright lights. It clips over the lens housing, and the lens can be rotated to best suit the camera's mounting position in the vehicle.

The VIOFO CPL Filter can:

  • Protect the camera lens from fingerprints, scratches and dirt
  • Reduce reflections and glare from glass, metals, snow or other shiny surfaces that would reduce image quality,in the same way as polarized sunglasses
  • Make colours more saturated and videos more beautiful
  • Be used during day time and at night

For further benefits of using a CPL filter, check out our article on CPL filters here.

Please Note:

VIOFO CPL Filter is not compatible with any IR rear cameras. Dash cam not included with CPL.

VIOFO A119/A129/A119 Mini 2 CPL Filter

The CPL filter can be used to reduce glare and improve colour production, clipping over the lens housing. The lens can be rotated to adjust the opacity of the filter, through the portruding edge of the filter at the top/bottom of the filter.

The CPL filters are compatible with the following VIOFO dash cams:

Front CPL Filter

Rear CPL Filter

Front + Rear VIOFO A229 CPL Filter

The front CPL filter for the A229 fits nicely around the lens of compatible models. You can twist the lens itself to adjust the level of polarization. There is a small white line on the CPL that lines up with a white line on the camera, located at the top center of the lens. This does not need to be strictly followed but should act as a baseline.

The rear camera CPL and the VS1 CPL filter are attached to the camera with adhesives, and polarization cannot be changed. Simply peel the adhesive covers from the CPL and apply them to the compatible camera.

VIOFO VS1 Mini CPL Filter

This CPL FIlter is for the front camera of the VIOFO VS1 and heavily resembles the rear CPL model (CPL-300). The VS1 CPL filter has a unique fitment for the VIOFO VS1 Mini and is only compatible with the VS1's unique lens.

VIOFO A329/RTC300 CPL Filter

These filters work ideally in unfavorable lighting conditions. For example, when the sun is high and causes reflection. When you record videos through the glass of a windshield, you will regularly notice reflections. To reduce this effect, the VIOFO polarizing filter can reduce these glares to capture important details, such as a license plate. Thanks to the CPL Filter you can capture the very best video quality!

FAQ

What is Parking Mode?

Parking mode is offered on most of the dash cams available at BlackboxMyCar. While it is important to protect your vehicle while driving, it is just as important to have your vehicle protected while it is parked. When the dash cam is in parking mode, footage will only be saved when there is an impact and/or motion. Parking mode can be enabled with a hardwiring kit or a battery pack.

For more information on parking mode, click here.

What is a Hardwire Kit?

A hardwiring kit enables parking mode. It allows your dash cam to remain powered on even when the vehicle's ignition is turned off. Installation is a breeze as you will only need to find an accessory fuse, constant fuse, and a grounding point.

What is a Battery Pack?

Most customers purchase the battery pack to avoid using the vehicle’s battery to power their dash cam. The battery pack is charged by either being hardwired into an accessory fuse or by being plugged into one of the vehicle's 12-volt cigarette sockets. We recommend the hardwiring the battery pack as it charges the battery pack quicker.

How much footage will my memory card store?

On average, a 2-channel dash cam writes 16GB/hour and a 1-channel dash cam writes about 8GB/hour.

Do I need a Rear Camera?

Accidents or events don't always happen at the front of the vehicle! Having a rear camera provides coverage for any events or accidents that may happen at the rear of the vehicle.

For more information on rear view cameras, click here.

Do I need a IR Rear Camera?

An IR camera is designed to record the interior of the vehicle in low light conditions. This option is very popular among rideshare drivers.

For more information on why rideshare drivers need dash cams, click here.

What is a CPL filter?

A CPL filter attaches to the dash cam lens to eliminate lens flares, light reflections, and windshield glares.

VIOFO A229 Plus Front & Rear CPL's

For me a CPL is a "must have" to aid in reducing glare & reflections. If there's an option to purchase, I will not use a dash cam w/o one now. The CPL for the A229 Plus's front camera is a super easy install, line-up to two white lines and you are done. Rear camera CPL takes a bit more patience since is uses adhesive to retain. Either way, both do a great job at reducing the glare & reflections. Highly recommend!

Great CPL filter

I've been using this filter on my A119V3 for a couple of years. I just picked up another one when I purchased an A119 Mini 2 with the updated Starvis 2 sensor. The filter clips on easily and works great, especially with glare and shooting into the sun. Would highly recommend.
