Do you drive a taxi cab or do rideshare for Uber or Lyft? Getting into an accident is one of the most common fear because it’s so easy to do. You’re covered under Uber’s insurance every time you’re en route to pick up riders or you’re driving a passenger to their destination, but what if an accident happens when you’re waiting for a ride request, or after you’ve just parked the car and called it a night?
Luckily, if your status is Available and/or you’re waiting for a ride request, Uber maintains basic auto insurance on your behalf. However, when you’re Offline, or have powered down and call it a night, your personal insurance and coverages apply. This is pretty much the same if you drive for Lyft. With that said, should anything happen to your car off the road and/or in the middle of the night, you’re pretty much on your own.
Sketchy situations and shady passengers are part of the job. Accidents happen. Thefts happen.
