Dash Cam Captures Shocking Hit-and-Run on Mount Charleston, Nevada

Update to the story: August 13th

Remember the incident regarding the Jeep Rubicon head-on collision with the Tesla hit-and-run story from July? Well, good news! The driver of the Jeep Rubicon has been identified as 38 year old Asya Ho Hanan, and the passenger as Victor Balian. Apparently Balian bought the Jeep Rubicon just a few days ago, and then decided let Asya test drive it. Definitely not the best idea there!

Well, thanks to the Tesla cam footage, Radu Stefan and his wife, Angela, the victims of the collision can finally breathe a sigh of relief! Asya now faces 3 charges including a misdeameanor for driving away & not stopping at the scene after the crash. This incident is a powerful reminder of just how vital dash cams have become in ensuring accountability on the roads. Get your today, because you never know what might happen when you’re out there.

In a frightening incident captured on a dash cam, a Tesla was struck head-on by a Jeep Rubicon on Mount Charleston, Nevada on July 7th, 2024. The crash occurred just before 1 p.m. as the Tesla, driven by Radu Stefan and his wife Angela, approached the intersection of Deer Creek Rd and Lee Canyon Rd.

The Incident

The dash cam footage shows the moment of impact as the Jeep Rubicon suddenly turned and crashed directly into the front of the Tesla. "It was like a horror movie," Radu recounted. "Very scary. We were just horrified, experiencing it. Just in shock." After the collision, the Tesla began to malfunction and accelerate uncontrollably. Radu managed to stop the car by pumping the brakes, but it veered off the road. By the time he regained control, the Jeep, which did not have a front license plate, had already fled the scene.

The Importance of a Dash Cam

The Tesla, a retirement gift Radu had given himself about two years ago, had to be towed down from the mountain and now sits in Radu's driveway. Repair costs are estimated to be a staggering $15,000 to $20,000, which Radu's liability-only insurance policy will not cover. This leaves Radu and Angela in a difficult financial situation, forced to bear the burden of the repairs themselves unless the hit-and-run driver can be identified and held accountable.

Police are currently investigating the incident but have not yet identified the hit-and-run Jeep driver. The dash cam footage will undoubtedly play a crucial role in their efforts to locate the responsible party and bring them to justice. This incident underscores the immense value of having a dash cam in your vehicle. Radu's dash cam provided indisputable evidence of exactly what happened, which will be crucial for the police investigation and any insurance claims.
